Short Biography
Dr. Thomas Kadyk did his PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Technical Systems in Magdeburg, Germany. Here, he developed nonlinear dynamic diagnostic techniques for Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells (PEFC). In 2012, he became a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Dr. Michael Eikerling at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. He studied supercapacitors with pseudocapacitance, the magnetic response as a direct measure of the oxidation state in lithium ion batteries, degradation of PEFC catalyst layers and bubble formation in porous electrodes. At the end of 2016, he became a junior research group leader and worked on fuel cell systems for aviation at TU Braunschweig. Since May 2019 he is leader of the department for Physical Modeling and Diagnostics at the institute section Modeling and Simulation of Energy Materials (IEK-13) of the Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, led by Dr. Michael Eikerling. Thomas’ key expertise is in continuum modeling and simulation of electrochemical components and devices, structure-property-performance relationships of electrochemical materials, statistical physics-based degradation modeling, and development of diagnostic techniques.
